Morning all
Im thinking of doing a water cooled head on the Monza after the rally season
The SX250LC in the water cooled sections got my juices flowing
Is it an off the shelf item or is it a matter of getting a water jacket made for my head ???
Anybody got any recomendations for the water pump ???
Whats the minimum fluid capacity needed/ rad size ??
Water cooling info

I just checked the price on MB site
I'll check with the Mrs to see if she really needs that kidney

cant you just get a ali plate elded on a normal af head over the top fins and then get it lapped flat again?
maybe worth a try

A Bosch VW 12 v pump does the job on a Vespa 225 I did ( http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... is-thisand )just for w/cooling the head a rad off a small auto etc should do ,depends on where you intend to mount it. I also found a thermostat is needed to keep the water temp stable.

It's not so simple, if it was then everyone would be doing that.mickdale wrote:cant you just get a ali plate elded on a normal af head over the top fins and then get it lapped flat again?

Have a read here to see what it entails. http://www.worb5.com/vespa_lambretta_sc ... iator.html

The ones at them minute seem a bit homemade. If a dealer came out with a water cooled system for the head and all the bits clearly explained with draws etc I'm consider one for an RB250 I'm building.

For one, Joey, it would make the kits prohibitively expensive. For another, in order for the kit to be successful and sell in numbers it has to be essentially a "bolt on" kit or drop in motor, without requiring the customer to modify his frame, electrics, etc. Otherwise those who don't want to or can't do the modifications necessary end up not buying the kit.joey wrote:... I don't get it.. why would Tino invest loads of his money employing the worlds finest motorcycle engineers to develop test and produce a kit to sell world wide to provide performance reliability and good economy for someone to come along and go it would be a lot better water cooled and why not fit a hydraulic clutch, hydraulic rear disc, and a few stickers and loads of chrome.....n stickers...result 75mph and plenty of over priced fully synthed and time spent waiting for the aa......
If you really want water cooling and you can't do it yourself, then you'll have to pay someone to do all the fabrication to your cylinder head, cylinder, frame - you must be able to mount radiators where they will be in the airstream when moving and in a way where they won't crack from vibration, mount the plumbing and water pump. Full DC will be required of course. That may be why Vince Mross never put his kit into production. Back in the 90's he announced a future WCLW "reed valve, liquid cooled cylinder kit". It never made it beyond paper. He probably would have gone bankrupt if he had fully developed and manufactured it.
I'd love to have a fully water cooled Lambretta, tuned TS1, RB, etc. But the scale of the project is beyond my talents and well beyond my budget and there's no one local who can help. But don't give up. There are a number of forum members here who have built liquid cooled projects - maybe they can help you and you never know maybe live close by. And shops like MB or Worb5 certainly have a lot of experiencing with liquid cooling.
Myself, I'll be trying out the new MB Big Head next summer, hopefully, on a 4,000 km return trip to Avignon.
too right; ; "....n stickers...result" I agree; what's the point of water cooling if you can't get the stickers, joey wrote:...
