hi all, i have a new six plate clutch (readspeed) tried to fit tonight everything is as should be
fit nice good clearance etc BUT when i torque the centr nut it all locks up ie the crown and spider does not spin independtly= freely. checked it before fitted and it all spun freely until torqued up :?: it almost feels like the shim is bending under torque and locking the two together if that makes sense.
i will ring readspeed tomorrow just wondered has anyone had this happen before :?:
any comments please
Den

Sounds like your end plate has moved.Remove the crown wheel and then check your cluster moves. I have fitted 3 readspeed 6 plate clutches today with no problems. Also check you shim size . I.E that your spockets run the same height as each other.

dectak how does the endplate move exactly :?:
im not familiar with the readspeed clutch but i guess its similar to standard type clutches, your symtoms sound like the shim isnt high enough and the sprocket is touching the top of the endplate (perhaps this is what detak means) or the other cause could be that the spider is shorter in depth than the sprocket and again the lowest part of that combo is touching the endplate , if you use a larger shim make sure the front sprocket is somewere inline with the rear height wise , this will save some wear on both sprockets ,chain and give less drag on the drive train .
