i need to trim a stainless braided hose. whats the best way of cutting the braiding ?, thin slitting disc in a grinder ?. cheers simon

I normaly use a cable cutter and then tidy it up quickly on the bench grinder, its good not to get too much heat into if you can help it as the internal sheath can melt making it hard to get the barb in.........

That's what I'd use but I'd wrap it tight with masking tape first to stop the ends from flaring out.

Easiest way I have found is to slide the nut on first then cut with sharp sidecutters.This squashes the nylon insert but will reshape when the banjo is pushed in.Next fit the olive and flair the braiding out and trim the excess off with the cutters as it will trap in the threads and not allow the nut to screw fully up.The hardest part is getting it all to run to the caliper without any twists so can be trial and error till the banjo is in the right position.

Hi,I use a 1mm disc cutter and masking tape to stop fraying.

if i were doing it i would agree with corrado. tape tight and high speed thin cutting disc will make short work of it. or dremmel with similar disc. have tried cutters and saws in past but well messy finish.

1mm slitting disc it is, and as for cable routing i will be going inside the fork tube as though i was fitting a speedo cable. i wont be using a speedo cable as i have a gps speedo. cheers simon

Hi Simon,

I use a plumber's copper pipe cutter! This leaves a clean cut after many turns!

The end of the braided hose is slightly compressed this allows the clamping sleeve to be slid on, then push back the braid by using the brass olive, this can be pushed home over the nylon inner.
Be careful as it's easy to prick your finger & thumb when doing this!

You now by using a scriber tip push the nylon inner outwards so that you can now push in the banjo, having done this slide up the locking sleeve & tighten!

It helps if you have a small vice to help hold the banjo whilst tightening the locking sleeve.
Do remember to not tighten fully as you may need to tighten to get the alignment of the banjo's when doing the final installation!
