Reinforcing Flywheel

I have read the recommendations made on the Supertune website regarding the upgrading of components prior to installation of the Avanti tt3 and I am concerned that the Flywheel needs reinforcing and at a minimum I imagine this would mean welding bits to other bits.Has anyone done this or drilled and replaced the rivets with bolts? and if so is there any advice you could offer? Am I better off buying a pre-strengthened one?(I am currently using a sil GP flywheel)

Can't understand why that flywheel is welded on the inside of the boss and not on the outside, as it would be easier to prevent weld splatter getting on to the magnets :? Is it advisable to have it welded on the inside as well as the outside? And why is the very small section of the boss welded too when it is a solid piece?

That's a good point.

I wonder if the Jap motorbike world could shed some light on this flywheel weakness.

cant answer the bit about the boss welding .....but the bit about spatter on magnets :lol: as someone who tried to weld the boss :oops: as soon as you put a welding rod near the boss the magnets pull the rod away from where you want to weld to somewhere you don`t want to weld with with somewhat comic results (how i laughed ).........i then discovered the "pro`s" shield the magnets in lead ..................which protects them from any spatter !
never squat down when wearing spurs !!

oh and i always just use domehead set screws and nylok nuts and washers to replace the rivets on my Indian flywheels never had a problem

A guy had one just like that at the Flying 8 Balls Rally the other week only it had cracked around the weld and all the rivets were loose :shock: It was suggested at the time that it should have been TIG welded, any thoughts?
