Brass thing is your air mixture screw.

It will be petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil leaking. Now for the causes.
1.Float valve needle worn and leaving petrol turned on so float bowl always filling slowly and thus leaking out the carb and via the mixture screw down your engine.
2. It could be just spit back from carb
3. Carb gasket leaking

These are the main causes in my experiance hope it helps.. 8-)

the carb and box are at a slight angle so any petroil will collect at the back - the petrol will evapourate leaving a deposit of oil behind - you will get some petroil in the box as stated earlier from spit back - remove the filter and clean thoroughly, remove and clean carb, remove carb box and lap the bottom, like LI150 said renew both gaskets (to box and carb) and replace the float needle.

careful not to over tighten the carb on removal - you said it has brass mixture screw you will need to remove this to get the carb off - carefully wind it full in noting how many turns to full stop - then screw it right out before you remove the carb- when you reassemble screw the mixture screw right in and unscrew out returning it to the original setting

the brass mixture screw should have a rubber grommet aswell

its nothing to really worry about and its an easy fix

best of luck
