Auto Conversion Model D?

has anyone ever done an auto conversion model D and would it even be possible without it looking all wrong? With no panels to hide things away it might look a bit clunky.

The reason I ask is that I've just bought a Model D that needs a lot of work and a mate happened to bring up the subject of a 172 air cooled Typhoon engine.

I thought about doing something with my model C but couldn't bring myself to do it.

I think it would look s**t. Nowhere to hide anything.

That's what I was thinking, but I'm open to persuasion

Its not just the frame that reqs modification the front end on the D model is not up to the extra performance . Have a look at any of the LD auto conversions on website
www.lambrettainnovation.co.uk you would need similair mods to fit the engine .Avoid using auto engine linkage system Lambrettas handle better than autos until you fit auto motor with linkage system the linkage system is the weak point of autos thats why they dont do so well in racing due to engine flexing so dont handle well in corners.

I appreciate that there's a lot to it but could it be done without it all looking like a dog's dinner?

i think it would be better to fabricate an entirly new frame and make it look like a d rather than alter what you have
