i was wondering what the maximum recommended piston to bore clearance you guys would run on a suzuki 190 kit with a cheap piston?
i saw a previous post that recommended not going tighter than 0.003", but what's the max? i have a barrel here that is 0.006". Think it's safe to run it?

Hi,where are you taking this measurement from?you should take it from either side of the exhaust port, this would be carried out with the barrel removed .
0.003 is safe but 0.006 will rattle a bit, remember pistons are tapered.
Hope this helps

i'm using an outside micrometer to measure the piston at it's widest point and a dial bore gauge to measure the bore in several places throughout the bore. the barrel is on the bench.
in dave webster's book he calls for 0.002-0.005" clearance, and sticky's book says that 0.006" may still be acceptable for some non original pistons. i have another piston(mitaka) laying around that is a bit bigger. that one gives me about 0.0055" clearance.
a bit of noise doesn't bother me much, top end builds can be fairly quick, but will that bit of noise crack the piston skirt or otherwise destroy the top end?

Hi,i'd build it with the specs you've got should be fine,my ts1 was 10 thou and rattled its tits off so i changed the piston it ended up 5 thou ,now its sweet
