to help keep the gear oil out of your pertol/2 stroke oil mix

the drive side oil seal is mounted on a plate (alloy, or preferably metal), which is screwed onto the crankcase with 4 small bolts.
The Hallite washer takes up (in theory), any imperfections between the oil seal plate and the crankcase itself, thus stopping your gear oil from flowing into the piston/ crank area

As I'm a bit of a "belt and braces" bloke ( no it ain't a weird fetish), I'd certainly use that type of bearing but would leave the Hallite washer in as well.
Don't you mean you'd flick out the DRIVE side plastic??

Thanks for the replies, any preference on how to lock the seal plate screws, dot punch or locktite ? I've got some of MBD's high tensile allen head screws to hold it in.

a very small drop of a suitable Loctite product on clean threads.
Don't overdo it as you may need to remove them in the future!!
