Can anyone point me in the right direction to check the year of manufacture of an ENGINE number?
Thanks in anticipation

thanks but that site (excellent though it is), mainly refers to frame numbers (unless I'm missing the bleedin' obvious  )
Any where else?

Where the engine and frame numbers use the same sequence ie frame sx150/75****, engine sx150/75**** I think that you can assume that the date of manufacture would be pretty close, even if they weren't matched on final fitting. But where the engine numbers are different from the frame such as 150 specials who knows? I've never seen any details either.
I think the closest you are going to get is to find where in the sequence the engine number is and match it to the equal number in the frame sequence and date that, eg for a 150 special engine 150LI*205001 matched to frame 150LIS*705001, both 5001 off the production line so 1963.

Hmmmm,
Mine was given an age related plate on an 'F' reg, yet the frame number according to the link suggests it was manafactured in '65.

What, to see that it was still a 125 & insured as a 125 & not had any tuning to it or anything like that?
