Crappy Lambretta speedos.

I have just spent a whole morning changing my speedo drive. I thought I had it sussed and all was ok with a nice smooth speedo reading but as soon as I took it above an indicated 60mph it started going haywire and the needle started bouncing all over the show. It now just bounces about and is useless. Is this likely to be the actual speedo or the drive? (new MB drive and worm ) I'm thinking of buying the new SIP digital speedo but I don't like the idea of it running of the original drive and worm. Is this the case? Any advice most gratefully received. Thanks Pete.

There is nothing wrong with using the worm drive, it's a proven system that still works in modern bikes today, it's the speedos that are crap, but as it may p155 you off now, it might not be so bad as having an accurate speedo and knowing how slow you're really moving :-D

Very few remade Lambretta speedos are much good at doing anything more than stopping you from getting a ticket in a built up area. Beyond 40mph they're all crap. Even if they don't bounce about they're usually wildly inaccurate.

So, how easy are these SIP speedos to fit then and are they any good?

FWIW I've had a couple of real cheappo speedos from Cam Lam- both are spot on as for speed (checked against a Sat Nav), and both needles are "Rock Steady" (there's a phrase for our older music aficionados.....)

They look "right" as well- recommended

take your speedo off and spray some spray grease round where the cable goes in ,it fills the gap that has worn in the drive bit ,mine doesnt jump around after doing this ,its as smooth as anythinge .mines an original gp 200 one
