burning out clutch plates?

Ok, I stripped my casings down to inspect why my clutch was playing up. I soon found the clutch corks had burned out. I out it down to an over adjusted clutch cable, there was no play in the lever. I replaced the clutch corks and plates with surflex one along with the springs.

I've been out for a faster run and it started to slip again. Then the cable lost alot of adjustment and the bike started to drag... Got back home and the gearbox oil smelt very burnny like last time. (haven't split the cases yet).

Surely a four plate clutch can survive in a rapido 225 with standard sx 200 gearbox?

i keep seeing this problem,mr innocenti realised that the larger front sprocket made the clutch last longer and no need for heavy springs,we are upto three times the origional power of the lambretta,why not follow innocenti's idea and use a gp box with bigger sprockets,
did you soak the plates and check the clearance without the springs?

I did look at using the GP gearbox, but I couldnt afford it at the time. And I'll be honest I didn't really check clearances as I wasn't sure what i was checking or how... :S

where are you situated? have you got sticky's book to guide you?

Cumbria, and yes I have stickys book (the older one). I did follow the instuctions, but I am not 100% sure I checked the clearances right.

Is like to have another go myself, much rather learn myself. I'll have to split the cassings and see what the plates are like. Is there a thread on here which has a step through to show how to set up a clutch properly?

Maybe I should go the whole hog and just buy one of these :D

It worked for me in an imola 186 which IMO gets the power on before a rapido, and if not you'll be a 5er down.
