ST 90 gearbox oil

When I topped up gearbox oil I out in some cheapo s+it in(thats all the local garage had commer or something) just to check it was running ok,
Picked up some rock oil ST90 today so will do an oil change in the morning, now the sticky book says 0.5 litres! am i being thick
so is this 500ml of a 1 litre bottle?
