Lost all lights and horn....... Help!

Started up my non-battery p200e and noticed the headlight was flickering. I whipped off the left hand side panel to have a wee look at my voltage regulator and sure enough one of the spade connector had sheared (the one the yellow wire connects to).

The yellow wire was sparking and arcing to the regulator so I disconnected it, and in the process lost all my lights and indicators and horn. When I got home I tried to connect the wire again but when I did I still had no lights etc. scooter still runs fine.

The scooter is a Spanish import and doesn't have the standard regulator (mine is about an inch square and half an inch deep with two spades connectors coming out the front, one for the yellow wire and one for the two green wires connected together, the regulator body earths to the frame where you bolt it on). I tried a standard regulator on tonight and still got no lights.

My question is what voltage should I be getting at the input (?) yellow wire at the regulator? Or I am barking up the wrong tree?

Any ideas??

Between earth and the yellow I'd expect to see anything from 10 to 30 volts to depending on revs and it will spark if touched (momentarily) to earth with the engine running. I have no knowledge of the Spanish set up but what you describe sounds like a rectifier, does it have a seperate regulator

I tried touching the yellow cable to earth with the scooter running earlier and no sparks, that's what made me suspect the output from the stator / input to the voltage regulator.

The regulator and rectifier are in the same unit (like other Vespas), it just looks different from normal ones.

I've been doing some digging and apparently the ac comes from the stator via the horn circuit to the regulator. I'll try chasing it back to the stator and see where I've got some voltage.....

My old T5 had a junction box on the engine case on the kick start side that the wires from the stator were terminated in, if yopur P220e has the same arrangement it would be a good place to start. Also check all earths, especially the engine earth.

if it has std wiring try wd 40 or similar on the horn switch flick the button and see if this retores the power . for some strange reason the lighing power comes off stator all the way up to the horn switch then back down to the regulator then from there to the lights
