T5 - broken gearbox!

Hi,
Must admit I'm more of a Lambretta man, so need some help from our resident Vespa experts please!
A mate has broken his T5 gearbox (half the teeth from 4th gear on the cluster have gone and the loose 4th gear looks very sad!). I've haven't yet established why this has happened, though it could conceivably just be 20+ years of being thrashed, that has caused this!
In any event, if we can't source a complete replacement T5 gearbox - nothing on Ebay etc. - I assume I could use a gearbox from a P-range engine, and if so, what other parts would I also need to use (selector box, rod, cruciform etc.??) and which one (if any) would give a similar 4th gear ratio??
I've trawled through this forum looking for an answer (and found nothing) and have also done some Google searches, and likewise haven't really found anything helpful, so hoping that someone on here can help!
Thanks,
Tom

I think forth gear on a T5 is the same as the later PX forth gear.

Use a PX200 christmas tree gear cluster.
The secondary 4th gear cog is T5 specific and can be bought on it's own.

Thanks Fruitjuice!
Does the gear cluster need to be from any specific year/model PX200 - would the cluster from a P200E be the same?? - and will they fit without any other modification etc??
Thanks

Tom, If you are buying a new cluster with the primary gear attached, you want the 68 tooth T5/PX125 cluster not P2 65 Tooth.
The T5 or PX125 EFL/Disc 36 tooth 4th gear cog is the one you need. Vespa part number 2232294.
Cheers

What he said above is spot on.

Ok, brilliant, thanks 'buttontobutton' and 'Yanker', now I think I get it - just not used to Vespa engines
The T5 or PX125 EFL/Disc 36 tooth 4th gear cog is the one we will go for, as a direct replacement for the damaged loose gear.
As far as the cluster goes, I appreciate what you are saying about using the 68 tooth primary gear to keep the ratios correct, but as we would like to try and pick up something 2nd hand - as funds are tight - and I can see you can purchase just the clusters separately (new) - is it worth doing this??, as I see the number of teeth on both T5 and P2 are the same (just thinking about opening up our options in the 2nd hand market), or is it a specialist job then to fit the purchased cluster (either T5 or P2) to the existing (T5 primary (68 tooth) gear??
Maybe I'm completely barking up the wrong tree here, as even though the T5 and P2 clusters have the same number of teeth on all four gears, maybe the profiles are different, and a separtely purchased P2 cluster fitted to our 68 tooth primary gear wouldn't then mesh correctly with the existing loose T5 gears??
Sorry, hope I'm making sense??? If funds permitted, we would just get all new, but just trying to work out what 2nd options are available to us

That's what I was trying to say, but Yankee said it better!

Just look for a standard late type 125 gearbox, it's exactly the same as a T5.
You can't use a P2 xmas tree as the primary is 65 teeth, a T5 would never pull it.
