Just put together scoot (rb20) after doing some bodywork and added a jimmers manifold and a new fuel hose. Scoots all back together and starts okay and runs okay but after approx 300 meters it just dies, this happens at exactly the same distance every time?. Have to wait a a minute or so and it starts fine only to die again after 300 meters......again. It feels like a fuel problem but I cant get to the bottom of it. so far we have repaced the carb with an exact same one with same jetting set up from a scotter that runs fine and the still have the same problem, so know its not the carb. Have taken hose off of carb to test flow rate which is spot on. Isolated the ignition, augusto, changed cdi, reg, made sure the hose isnt being crushed by bump stop. Oh and also changed the fuel just in case.. :)

The barrel is now off and will be measured to see if the piston to bore gap is okay but to be honest i think its fine just from a visual inspection so i dont think its barrel wear. Looked at the reeds which again are fine. Im not really sure where to go from here. I cant see how a slightly different manifold would cause this (jetting ?) or a new fuel hose but i will change the hose and go back to the old AF manifold and see if that cures it. could it be a stator issue, getting to hot maybe, we havent looked at this as the symptoms dont really point to this being the problem.

If anyone has any ideas would be mauch appreciated, iv already lost this bank holiday and southends on the horizon... :D

Try it with your fuel cap off, but don't lean into the corners too much ;-)

tried it with cap off and a loose fitting one, still the same. Re the stator, what would it only do it after 3oo meters every time? they normaly just give up the ghost.... :? this is non the list to try though.

Air leak? I believe you can pressure test the engine somehow to show this, someone told me Charlie Edmunds does this test before anything else.

Sounds more like an air lock or blockage in the fuel line, when you sit on the scooter is something kinking the fuel line. Sounds like its using all the fuel up in the float chamber and cant refill it untill you get off and kick it up again.

On the way to the Lincoln Euro my scoot broke down. Waited a very short time fired it up then rode a few hundred metres and it stopped again. After the 12th time I gave up. It was the stator... :o

No sorted that, pipe is now zip tied so cant be crushed as it goes under frame. Trying stator this week hopefully.
