Lammy cutting out and wont restart

After my DC conversion (here's a job I'm beginning to wish I hadn't bothered) I've had a few problems. Rectified them (or so I thought) but tonight I thought I'd check all was in order. So I set off, and 2 or 3 miles up the road the engine died and no end of trying would get it started.
So I set off pushing Lammy home, 1st part up a very steep hill :cry:

Flywheel stripped off (yet again) new yellow cable has rubbed on the shaft and maybe shorted to earth on what I assume to be the electronic ignition (looks a bit like a relay) securing bolt.
I wouldn't have thought this would cause the engine to cut out. Anyway , after repair continuity checks on all wires, all OK. So back together again and starts 1st time.

Only problem is when (or will) is it going to happen again. I've made doubly sure that the new and old wiring is secure and away from rotating parts. Any other things that could cause the engine to cut out? Mainly an electrical problem I'd have thought.
I've been out earlier in the day and all was well until I discovered I'd to lights, the battery wasn't charging and had run flat.

Well, the yellow shorting to earth would explain the lack of charge and hence the flat battery but I would agree that it shouldn't have caused the engine to cut out. In order to reduce the chances of it happening again you could really do with making sure that all connections are properly soldeered on the stator and also that the stator earth tags are tight (they are riveted and sometimes are loose). Then mix up some araldite and put blobs of it on any loose wires to glue them to something solid. Also araldite the pickup securing bolt.

Thanks my friend, however, my worry is that all these connections have been fine since I've had the scooter. It's only since I did the DC conversion that things have gone pear shaped. :oops: My thought is that the red wire has been pinched and although free now when warmed up it causes a bad connection which cuts out the ignition. :cry:
It's a very difficult fault to diagnose and only going on a ride will reproduce the fault. I'm not keen on trying to replace the red wire through the loom but if it fixes it then I'll have to do it. Although as soon as I got back I did a continuity check and the red wire (along with the others) was fine.
