rb20 race tuned barrel
34 vhsb , K24 p2, 180 main, 50 pilot and dp267,18 degrees static ignition.ADS race pipe
really grumpy until 8500 revs when power kicks in and fully on the mainjet by then. After 8500 it flies and is really sweet but up to this point and right through proggression on the throttle its crap.
already tried k21 and dp266 but symptons are unchanged.
I don't really wanna have to launch on 8500+ revs constantly and wondered if anyone runs a similar setup and what different setup they may have tried.

I ran an RB20 with an ADS race pipe and 30mm vhsh i found the same even after Dyno you really need to be in the band to get the exhaust working.

I built an RB20 for a customer a couple of years back, and its still running strong. He had it into us at Xmas for a winter service/check and i noted his old NK 'mid' pipe was rusted and cracked and asked if he wanted a repair or to supply a new pipe, as the range of ADS pipes were pretty good. He opted for a new pipe and got the race version by mistake instead of the fast road, and I let him know....but he said run it up anyway. So I ran the ADS racepipe up in an RB20 and it was f@@king awful. Absolutely no power at all until peak RPM.....thus wouldn't pull gearing at all. No matter what I did with jets or ign timing I just couldn't get it to perform the way I wanted, so i asked him to see if he could exchange it for the fast-road version which he did.....and boom, back on the money! Pulled crisp and tight all the way through, lovely curve and good peak power. The ADS race pipe just don't suit the RB20 IMHO.
Moving on from that, I ran up a similar spec RB20 with a Frandpeed pipe and it was even better than either of the ADS pipes. Similar mid range to the ADS fast-road, but more peak power too!

Interesting feeback thanks, must try different pipe and see what performance is like. Our rb20 has a liner in it with crazy porting, wiseco piston and designed for sprinting. Currently running 5.1 gearing which seems to suit the tune. Will franspeed rev out nicely whilst balancing out the lower rpm progression ??
