legshield / rear runner splits etc (where holes are at top, sharks teeth etc)

whats the best way to permanently repair?

year or two ago MIG welded and dressed back legshield
also tig welded a rear runner

both split again

is there a way to permanently repair? - braze or does too much heat go in and distort?

cheers

Hi,the problem with splits re appearing is that people seems to weld over the crack then grind it all off again leaving very little weld left.

What I do is countersink both sides of the hole first then fill it up with weld and gently belt sand the area down afterwards leaving some weld there atleast.

As for the rear runners I spot weld a strip of metal inside first to strengthen the area up first then do my repairs after.

Hope this helps

Dean

what settings do you use on the spot welder (i know they are all different for each machine but being in the right ballpark will help)

cheers

if its a split, then you need to drill a hole at the end of the crack/split, then weld it up and dress back, worked for me with no problems
