was thinking of getting a new full frame project powder coated - anyone got experience on the quality of finish of powdercoat?
heard that it shows all tiny imperfections but only hearsay
also i assume you cant powdercoat fibreglass components (showing my ignorance

)
is it a viable option as not after a show winner
also anyone have personal experience and recommend a coater (or not as the case may be)
cheers

It will show imperfections as there's no filler or filler primer used in the process, but it's still a viable finish, I'll be powder coating my frame internals and frame, although I'll still be painting the top of the loop afterwards. The panels and legshields would need to be in good nick otherwise could look rough. I believe special fillers can be used but not seen it done. Coating fibreglass isn't an option.

All of the above, on a coater where are you based ? Couple of powder coaters frequent the forum..

You can get fillers for items you want to be powder coated such as :
http://www.thermobond3.com/
But, as has been said already, a less than perfect repair will still be visible after coating.
As a rule, you can only coat metal, as it is an electrostatic process. Specialist applications to exist for coating other materials, but they are not common.
There is more info on the process on our website for those interested:
http://www.kintech-powdercoating.co.uk/
Although this isn't a plug, as we don't really do non industrial jobs ( unless I am made an offer I can't refuse

)

small imperfections can be lost but it depends how the process is done

Why use powdercoat rather than paint?
It's a bitch to get off, isn't it?
How long do you want the paint/powdercoat job to last?

thought it would be cheaper and long lasting but looking at the state of the bodywork, most of it is gonna have to be replaced
maybe paint if i can find a good place to get it done
wonder what the going rate is for a gp......
