spring replacement on GL

got to change the front spring on a GL150
was given a spring to fit, which is about 40mm longer than the one that came off.
so, guessing it's for 8" wheels, and will therefore be stiffer.

it looks a bitch to fit, which i expected.
and looks like it will be pretty coil bound once on, or will just bottom out the damper...

is this worth pursuing...?
is there a better alternative to stiffen the front end; the bike [not mine] has a rack full of lights on the front, so could benefit from some uprated suspension.
I was thinking of cutting the new spring down by a couple of coils and reshaping the end to fit the top plate... ?

any tips or recommendations gratefully received

One obvious solution does come to mind but its probably not one the owner wants to hear. ;)

yeah, I know, not my favourite style of scooter at all, but this one does look right, and he dresses the part, and carries it off well.

so i cut the spring down by 20mm or so, ground the end flat to fit in the plate and put it all back together, after much cussing... It does feel firmer there now... but i think that the damper is practically bottomed out...
