AC wiring questions.

I'm posting this as a different thread to my Pathfinders post but in a way it's relevant. My Lambretta has an Electronic ignition CDI unit and a 3 pin regulator. I assume it's 12v AC, no idea.
Can I replace the 3 pin regulator unit with the 5 pin version like this
which has a battery connection to charge a battery and help me run Pathfinders?
This may be a stupid question but AC current on a vehicle isn't something I'm used to.

Yes. The 5 pin regulator is a straight swap and the additional output is used to connect to a battery, you will only be able to use the spots for shortish spells though as the regulator ony provides a trickle charge.

and ideally use that C connection to isolate the battery when not running, otherwise it may drain back through the circuit.
but even better, convert the whole bike to DC...

Sorry to be thick again but what would I connect "C" to? And are any of the 5 pin type available suitable?
As for DC hmmm yes, I've been looking into this and it looks a nightmare. :wtf: Being soft in my old age I'd prefer a simple plug and play option. :anbrgin;
Thanks for the replies. I may go ahead and buy a set of Pathfinders now. :bigsm: I suppose a set of LED bulbs would help. If such a thing exists.

Believe me, nothing could be simpler, it only requires the earth connection to be removed from the lighting coils and connected to a new wire. The 2 lighting wires go to the input side of the wassel unit and the positive output (red) is connected to the brown in the loom. The negative from the wassel goes to earth. Your battery just connects between the brown and earth. The topic mentioned has it all explained with pictures and diagrams by Byron. You can buy a kit of the parts needed Tom Beedspeed if your not up for the soldering.

It's not the soldering it's the taking apart of the mechanism and refitting.
