This may be a daft question, but having changed my fuel pipe and being able to confirm that petrol is flowing, why then is my fuel pipe only half full when I turn the tap on?

Maybe an air lock?

I agree. It does look like an air lock. Although, it would seem to be maintaining the level with the engine running. How do I get rid of it?

every single one of my scooters has exhibited this "trait" since 1968- I think its normal ("yeah...what's normal then?....")

The only times the pipe has been "full" is when there's been a problem with the float in the carb and its flooding.

Nev, think it can depend whether the fuel pipe enters the carb under or in the side of the float bowl as opposed to some carbs where the fuel pipe connects from above. The latter means that air within the top of the float bowl remains in the fuel pipe but is displaced when fuel runs past it from the tank. Either that or I'm talkin bollox

It's running okay so I suppose I'll just have to suck it and see.
