Building up a new 200 casing and thinking of going down the Avanti route. Are the transfers at the base of the cylinder much larger than standard? I ask so that I can blend the transfers on the casing to match the cylinder, but don't know how much bigger, if any, they are. Have a mate who's running one in and have asked for one of the extra base gaskets supplied to use as a template.

do they need blending; is it the biggest restriction that limits the kits performance and if not matched will show up on the rolling road or will it perform the same if left untouched,

Don't know, else I wouldn't have asked. Just that it seems sensible, before putting all the guts and bearings in, to make sure there is a smooth flow of gasses from the crankcase into the cylinder :wtf:

Give Ron a call (or e-mail)....he's the man that designed the kit and should know the answer to the question.

From a mate, so there is a little bit to blend. Not much, maybe 20 minutes with a Dremel ;)

but you'll want your crank out while you do it ;)

Exactly. That's my mate's engine which he has already built. He just sent me the photo to show how much needed blending. He's sending me one of the spare base gaskets as a template.

It looks good but the difference is minimal compared to other aspects (CR, exhaust/expansion, ign timing and general bolting it together properly).

Do it if the motor is already in bits, or you have time on your hands, otherwise wait for its next rebuild.

with the wide ex port so large is the blend possible to all after maket pipes; or close fit needing little work; or is this where time will be well spent blending, ?

The exterior of the exhaust port is exactly the same a standard big bore exhaust gasket, it was made like that so most stubs would be able to fit!
