exhaust clearance question

just fitted a JL3 curly pipe at the weekend and went to put my runner on today to find the zuarst was fouling the bottom of the runner. Ended up putting rubber gromets to lift the runner clear...I got round to thinking I may have the manifols snub on backwards. opinions please gents?#Image

after reading that back...just to clarify should the flat edge of the flange you see be facing the crankmouth rather than towards the cylinder head.
