I've just tried to fit stainless runners to my Li special. On the rear runners the back threaded fixing on the out strips that bolt through the rear strut frame seem too short to fit the rubber grommet, go through the strut and then a flat washer and spring washer then be able to get a nut on. Is there a way of doing this and keep every thing in line?
Help please as I thought this was a simple job but wasted hours doing it on a friday night!!!!!

Can't you just leave that nut off? if its not the end fixing you should be fine

but it is what holds the runner to the rear strut.
do you need the spring washer ?
clamp it compressing the rubber to get the nut started ?
of course you'd have to position the clamp with something to still be able to get to the thread...
cut the stud off, drill, tap & replace with a longer one

Remove the rubber grommet and try a small piece of an old innertube, that should have the effect of lengthening the bolt.

good tip, it's suprising how often a piece of old inner tube comes in handy

They're cheap too.

I've had a closer look at the stud, it turns out to be bolt brazed into the inner section of the stainless outer runner (which is hollow) I dont suppose the thickness of the rubber will make any difference to the gap between the running board and bottom edge of the panel. Thank for all your help.
