Help please!

Hi all, I have a problem that I'm needing advice on. As I pull away at low revs all is fine but as I increase the revs the engine scream as if it's jumped out of gear, select another gear and as the revs increase it does the same in every gear. I'm thinking selector spring?? Which obviously means a clutch / gearbox strip. Before I rip it all apart, is there anything else it could be? Thanks in advance Pete.

Hi Eden, it's ok pulling away and goes fine as long as it's only on half throttle but give it some welly and it seems to jump out of gear, select another gear and its ok until I open the throttle fully and it does the same thing. It's the same in every gear. Cheers pete

Agree with Eden sounds like clutch is slipping or it could the front sprocket under load.

If it's actually jumping out of gear, are you certain both of your gear change cables are adjusted in tune? That's a much easier first check than stripping the whole gearbox

I've been back out on her and when the engine screams like it's jumped out of gear, it hasn't. If I pull the clutch in and drop the revs, it's still in gear. This to me eliminates a selector spring issue and narrows it down a bit. The front sprocket slipping under power seems likely to me. Any thoughts on this? Cheers all.

Could be the front sprocket slipping or worn, but that is less likely than the clutch...

Check the springs have not become coilbound... check their height against new springs.

eden wrote:Agreed, its unlikely to be the cush drive slipping unless the bolt has come loose, you should take the side case off asap and check if it has come loose, if it has, it doesn't take long for the whole thing to ware its way through the side case and pop out. Its happened to me.
while you have the side case off you may as well change the clutch plates while your there ;)

when the cush is slipping under load it feels like its jumping in and out of gear a bit like a f@@ked cruciform feels on a V**pa
Shouldnt you be getting pissed birthday boy :D

I had the side casing off today, all is ok with the clutch, which is a new AF 6 plate cassette and the sprocket bolt is tight. Could the carb being way out jetting wise cause the problem described? I did 'adjust' the carb just before the problem started. Getting a bit puzzled and frustrated now!!!

my money is still on the clutch
Had a few beers to drown my sorrows now, I'll get back to it first thing tomorrow. I'll do as you suggest and post back my findings. Cheers lads.
