hi i need some help with the wiring on this, indian gp 150, its a 12v electronic, no battery no indicators,
i have been following the wiring diagram in stickys manual, but i still seem to be having a few problems getting the headlight and the brake light to work correctly.
first of all the head light will not come on, i haven't checked the bulb yet, so that might be something of nothing, as the two wires for the head lamp are red and black and i know where they go.
the brake light however i can't seem to solve,
when the ignition is all the way to the left the ignition is off, second notch it does nothing,
3rd notch when the brake pedal is pressed, the tail light comes on and not the brake light,
4th notch, the brake light is fully on and the tail light is on.
what do you think is causing this to happen, i have followed the wiring diagram but still can't pin point whats gone wrong somewhere.
cheers
electrickery

which diagram are you following? the "standard SIL indian GP AC electronic(with regulator, no indicators, no battery)"
or the "MB-type simplified wiring loom for AF/Vespa and rewired indian....etc etc"
Also, is it the standard indian gp loom? and switch(orange, red, blue, white)? The headlight wires are normally red and blue.
I've never really used those key switches so i'm not too familiar with them, but i am an electrician who often works on large machine wiring far more complicated than a lambretta. And i'm familiar with the rest of the standard lambretta wiring
or the "MB-type simplified wiring loom for AF/Vespa and rewired indian....etc etc"

im following the standard sil indian gp ac electronic ( with regulator, no indicators, no battery) as shown in stickys manual,
thing is it seems to have a vespa type ht coil blue box and therefore i think some of the wires are different colours, its not exactly the same as the wiring diagram, but that might be whats causing the problem

and you have a brown, grey, green, and black coming into the headset from the loom? If you have the ever popular brown, green, black, purple setup, with pink at the regulator that doesn't show up in the headset, let me know and i'll rewrite my description accordingly.
i just checked and every lambretta i have in the garage(all electronic) has green, white, red going to the coil with a yellow for the lighting. One of my old ones had a brown for the lighting.
the brown(yellow) coming from the regulator is the main power wire. that does it all. It sounds like you have that wire correct. if that's true, and assuming you don't have an electrical tester, i would check stuff this way....remove the brown coming into the headset from the loom. Dont let it lay against the frame, but start the bike up and let idle. If you touch the brown wire to the black wires at the junction block, the speedo light and tail light should come on. If you touch it to the grey that's in the loom, the brake light should come on. If you touch it to the orange of the light switch, the red and blue should toggle the high and low beams of the head light.
make sure everything is grounded properly too. Let me know what happens

Unfortunately I can't see the loom into the headset but if the same wires are present as at the regulator then you have 3 lives when you only need the one brown.Connect this brown to the key switch brown and blue, yellow keyswitch to pilot bulb, pink to earth, switch black to loom (which ever runs to rear light, keyswitch red to dip/high yellow.I need to know where the loom yellow and purple are going.

the ignition loom seems to have blue instead of purple and red instead of orange, wack 63 wrote:Unfortunately I can't see the loom into the headset but if the same wires are present as at the regulator then you have 3 lives when you only need the one brown.Connect this brown to the key switch brown and blue, yellow keyswitch to pilot bulb, pink to earth, switch black to loom (which ever runs to rear light, keyswitch red to dip/high yellow.I need to know where the loom yellow and purple are going.
i have managed to suss it out now, i have removed the yellow and pink stuck in with the second brown at the regulator,
who ever wired this up was a moron as he didn't put any bullet connectors on the end of the wires, instead just clamped them together, instead of connecting them to the switch box on the headlamp,
i found the pink one was connected to the horn and the yellow one connected to the brake light switch, so i have removed these and i have wired it up correctly now,
so its all sorted!! thanks for the help

even matching all the correct colours, it still didn't work, so i spent time trying to find where the fault was,
got to the point after hours of swearing at it and going round with a multi-meter, my rear light would still not work neither the head lamp functioned properly,
so if ripped the ignition out and have order a proper casa lambretta one,
and then ordered a new brake light switch, new blub holder, new switch, if that doesn't sort it, i will replace the rear light even though it was working, just not correctly.

I would also get some decent connectors from vehicle wiring products
