fitted a 28mm dell'orto to my p200e on a malossi manifold, standard p2 barrel and pinasco pipe. the carb tilts backwards at a steep angle. i think this may be why it will only start with the choke on EVEN when its hot and just run, do the big carb angles make a difference? possibly the float needle can't function very well. it wont start easily in the morning and takes 30 kicks to drag fuel through. petrol pisses out of the pipe at the banjo height. maybe i should resort to a standard carb or a reed valve to level the carb off? any experience with carb angles on casing induction would be welcome. :?

I think dellorto state their carbs will work at angles of up to 45degrees so this probably isn't your problem.
You can set up a 28mm to run on your set up but the effects over a standard carb will only be negative because you'll never pull the revs for it to be of benifit.
What do you know about the top end? If the rings are worn, coupled with a carb too big for the motor the symtoms you describe would make sense.

hmmm, 45 degrees, you learn something on here every day!! the rings are good but the jetting except the 115 main is a per the previous malossi 210 reedvalve set up. i think really the standard carb is the way to go if theres no benefit to a bigger carb. once its running i got it off the clock on the ring road round sheffield and then noticed id used half a bloody tank of super unleaded in 15 miles running. :( i think a 24 mil will be the best bet then.

I run a Spaco 28mm carb on my 220 set up & it sits at that angle & works a treat, but I ran it with a standard carb on a Malossi 210 kit prior to changing to a 60mm crank and it was still very good. :) So you shouldn't have any issues either way.
