im trying to sort out a clutch dragging issue on my gp150
clutch fully pulled in, and when in gear its still in gear,
so i have the side casing off, the plunger is fine no signs of it being worn down and the clutch arm freely moves the plunger up and down in the side casing.
so i go to check the clutch, no signs of wear on the plates teeth, but when i fiddling i noticed that holding on to the basket there was about 1mm of play in the basket,
is this normal? this is the first time i have worked on a lammy,
so im thinking what do i need to replace to sort this problem???
clutch basket play
Is it creeping forward when you put it in gear with the clutch lever pulled in? You want a little movement in your basket (clutch bell) when its compressed it needs to be able to move under load.Does your crownwheel and clutch spider move independently? meaning if you turn the crownwheel the spider stays still and visa versa.Have you got over 1mm of play between the plates when it is fully compressed with your clutch tool? springs OK? not coil bound ,all the same height.no grooves in the turrets on the crown wheel to catch the plates as they move up and down? soaked the plates for 24 hours before fitting? cable adjusted and routed properly.I'm off to bed now,let us know how you get on.
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

there is about 0.5 - 1mm play in the clutch bell from side to side with clutch tool compressed and de compressed,DaveTomo wrote:Is it creeping forward when you put it in gear with the clutch lever pulled in? crownwheel and clutch spider move independently,
there is over 1mm of play with the clutch tool compressing the clutch,
springs are ok
iv measured the clutch plates they are about 13.7mm not fully 14mm when stacked together,
THERE ARE GROOVES IN THE TURRETS, so looks like im going to have to change the clutchbell/crownwheel what ever you call it.
so do you recommend a surflex one over the crappy indian ones?
cheers
Indian ones fine, got one in mine (inner bell/clutch spider same thing different names) http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... -bell-sil/ also check your crown wheel / rear sprocket (again same thing different name) http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... -46-tooth/ you don't want any grooves on either of these if they're not too bad you can lightly file the grooves out,but if they're to deep better off replacing.Last one
check your clutch steels aren't warped, very last one bronze bush is OK http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... utch-bush/ if you do decide to replace that make sure its got a groove/channel in it

yep im replacing the crown wheel as thats the one that has the grooves in, the inner spider is fine, iv ordered an indian one, also bought a new bronze bush, clutch holding tool, new tab washer and i have bought a new 3mm and a 2.5mm last clutch steel if the problem still exists, i will swap the 3mm for the 2.5mm and bend the last plates tabs down.DaveTomo wrote:Indian ones fine, got one in mine (inner bell/clutch spider same thing different names) http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... -bell-sil/ also check your crown wheel / rear sprocket (again same thing different name) http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... -46-tooth/ you don't want any grooves on either of these if they're not too bad you can lightly file the grooves out,but if they're to deep better off replacing.Last onecheck your clutch steels aren't warped, very last one bronze bush is OK http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... utch-bush/ if you do decide to replace that make sure its got a groove/channel in it
good luck with it mate, let us know how you get on.Make sure when you get the bronze bush if it hasn't already got a groove in it run a junior hacksaw or something similar blade down the inside ,then put a bit of wet & dry over it the take of any burrs from cutting the grooves. Helps with the lubrication like this one http://lambretta.co.uk/catalog/product_ ... ts_id=2857 looking at the camlam one they've run one down the outside as well, when you think how many times your rear sprocket revolves its a lot to ask of a bit of bronze pipe so it all helps.
