Speedo back-light

I have this kind of speedo:

And I have this kind of bulb:

But still the lighting isn't all that fantastic, anyone have a suggestion?

What kind of bulb is that, did you get it from NASA.

They are pretty much the "yar-yar's" of LED technology, burn your retinars out with a single flash :shock: . But back to the problem, maybe the plastic back is too dense to pass light?

thoughts anyone?

Probably right about the density, personally i just make do wih a crappy speedo bulb as long as the head and tail are ok.

well as led's tend to be directional the ones on the side wont light anything and it just leaves you with the one on the top :(

I used the above type LED in a series 3 speedo and it worked great..

And just to add, with the GP speedo and above LED, there is fantasic light comming thru where the odometer is just not thru where the speed is.

One idea I had, is to replace the needle for one made of a clear plastic with a red top (just look at any modern car) so that the clear plastic catches the light. A late model vw golf is a good example.

True, I'm running 12V Varitronic with a battery.
