Just fitted some schwalbe classic treads to my gp,have always used race style tyres on my scoots ,tt91's and 92's, conti twists etc, and whilst they are not as sticky as these when hot they are a very good tyre, got the gp cranked right over in the dry, like you wanted to keep with original looks and would recommend these !!

ive done many 1000"s of miles on Michelin S83"s , and have put them on my rally scooter for this year, used them on vespas and lammys for years. the schwalbe blocktreads i got were marked "swallow" and were absolute shite, indeed, i came off on a damp roundabout after the front gave way with one on. they are twitchy as fook.

Michelin S83 tyres are good for the money, no doubt about that. Heidenau tyres are very nice for a change. I personally use the S83 for being a good budget item. I sometimes stick the S1's.. They are practically the same thing, just different tread.

Thanks for the replys.
Goldeneye, I was thinking the same about Schwalbe classic tyres. The worst tyre I EVER had was a Swallow with that tread pattern, it was f@@king leathal.
I think Swallow changed their name to Schwalbe(german name for swallow)because they had such a bad rep for making s**t tyres and they wanted to change their image.
Think I might get some S83s they have always served me well.

Continental have recently brought out a new block tread tyre "the Classic", has a 74mph rating which is higher than most block treads. Still a tube type though.

Heidenau K38 is a good tyre, don't expect them to last long though.

Michelin ACS were the best classic tyre ever with good wet performance and a wrap around tread for knee scraping. Clasic Michelin S83's are on all my bikes and do good miles at motorway speeds and fast B roads with no problems.highly recommended. The contis with hex block pattern perform slightly better but last sod all miles. Just bought an Indian bike with Michelin S1's on it, absolute shite,summer tyre only- theyre very good in july when warmed up but going to work in the morning on a damp road and pulling up at 30mph suddenly and the front fails to grip hard enough, tried Schwalbe race treaded items before and found the same problem,track good,winter bad- convinced motorbike style tyres for scooters are not good enough for winter use if you cut and hammer through city traffic.If you need a really good period 70's tyre and cost isnt an issue then probably the conti's which are a period tread. Most people use a car for work and get so excited to see april arrive i think they have rose tinted flyscreens when it comes to tyres. :anbrgin;
