I have a non-battery SIL gp 200 engine in a series 1 and I want to charge a battery and run a tacho (backlit) and such off of it. Can I simply install a battery type regulator and battery and work away?or do I need to unsolder wires and stick in a Wassel unit as per the recent thread on the subject?.

I think the best thing is to do a search as all these questions are fully explained and have been several times in the last few weeks
