Hi guys,
I want to bring back to the road a Spanish Serveta LI 150 MK3.
I'm thinking about what kind of set up I could use for the tourer/racer (or fast tourer if you prefer! ) scooter I want, but I need some infos 'cause I'm a new entry in the Lammy world.

I'd like to take an AF Rapido 225 because I want to start with a cheap but reliable GT .

Which are the differences between the 225 classic and the 225 race ? Which one is better ?

I know from this topic :

http://scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic ... lit=rapido

that there are some problems with Rapido barrel, but that's not an handicap becouse my friend Piccio is quite able in tuning and I trust him for these kind of works.

The set up I'm thinking about is:
SIL 200 engine-case
Rapido 225 race
AF 58mm crank
28 PHBH carb
new standard chains
gears ????
5 plate standard clutch (will it blow up ??? )
ehaust???? AF clubman? scootSR pipe ? ancillotti ?

is this a reliable set up ? what kind of power/speed could I expect ? maybe is better a 225 classic than a race one ? chains and clutch will last ?

my idea is to use this set up just for this year, then do an upgrade with 30mm carb, devtour piston and other MBD parts (chains, head, crank, ect) , a 6 plate clutch and a serius ehaust (JL ?? )

tell me your opinions!

cheers

Dam

PS=sorry for my english! :D

you can use the spanish casings and open them to 200 spiggot for about 60 pound (i was quoted)

rapido 225 classic is the one you want, even with a tm24 mm mikuni and clubman they produce 15bhp which is enough for 70mph

i would concider a 60mm stroke mec crank too

hi guys,
thank you all for the answers! :D :D :D :D

a thing I didn't understand: which is the difference between classic and race ?
another thing: isn't the race reliable?

because my goal is to get a reliable tourer scoot...but I like a little bit of power too!...
In fact to speak onestly I lean much more to the rapido race side...
I know that more power you ask to your engine...less reliability you'll get...but to do a comparison with vespa world: my tourer vespa is Malossi 210 kitted, not a Pinasco 225.If you do things right, without exceed, with right touches and good quality parts, you can get a reliable machine even from a race-attitude kit (at least...with vespas is possible).
I'm searching the same solution for the lammy...not just more torque, but also some speed.
So...from this point of view...trying to understand the characteristics of these two kits...why you suggest me the classic instead of the race,is the race so unreliable ?

cheers :)

im having this debate about my ts1 right now

i have a road/race spec tune which is faster than any other ts1 i have ridden but not the fastest by a long shot.

its the definition of "fast" thats interesting. my idea of fast is the bike that gets from a to b the fastest. however the next guy may say that the fastest is the one with the most acceleration and then the next guy will tell you that the top speed is what its all about.

im of the belief that the bike that gets from a to b the fastest is the bike with the power that comes on as you pull away and continues to increase consistently to the end of the rev range.

acceleration man would say that its worth sacrificing the power at lower revs as once you are in the power you will gain what you lost with the more aggressive acceleration then the remaining gears you can change at the right time to keep in the power.

top speed man will say something similar about the lower revs as the acceleration man but will want his power at the top to keep it pulling at high motorway speed.

now you cant have it all, you have to decide where and how you ride and with who.

if you ride with your girlfriend on the back or or with lots of luggage then there is no pint going for acceleration or top speed as you will not be able to pull away.

if you ride in town or want to tour overseas where traffic in the cobbled streets are slow then you will be spending your life riding the clutch which will eventually fail or just drag which is a misery on a hot day in italy.

so for day to day use you want lots of bottom end and mid range power as that's where you will be using it. with this you will have no problem if you select the wrong gear in town or need to plod through traffic, it will not be screaming its head off to make power then drop out of the power on a roundabout leaving you fishing for the right gear.

the classic is easy to ride, use a jl3 for a bit more umph. the race will feel broken when you pull away then scream for a moment until you run out of revs and desperately try to change gear to ensure you enter the next gear in the power.

it wears thin believe me.

Hi cezeta,
thank you mate!

Your post is very interesting! I got some questions: on AF website the classic 225 isn't shown; there are the classic 200, race 200, race 225, race 250.
To buy it, have I to ask AF the classic version with 70mm cylinder ?
How much does it cost ?
Matching a 70mm cylinder with 60mm stroke crank I could have 230cc, is would be a good engine or is it impossible to realize or unreliable?
If I size a 70mm cylinder, could I rebore it ? If not, is it possible to have a classic rapido with a 68mm cylinder ?

thanx and sorry for my total ignorance about these performance kits

I got my 225 classic rapido barrel from AF and took it straight along to Mark Broadhurst at Mb developments he supplied a race-tour piston and low compression head tidied up the ports and blended in my inlet manifold and down pipe from my ancilotti clubman.
I am very happy with his work it pulls a Li150 box and 17/46 easily.
On the advice of cezeta i will probably change my crank to a 62mm stroke next year

just to correct 6LDA 28B, you will be changing to a 60mm stroke unless you plant to have your casings machines?

60x70 will give 231cc and will go together without too much fuss. the rapido as a 70mm pistoned kit will allow a number of oversizes up to 71mm and its oversizes. there after you could ceramic line to keep the 71mm bore

phone af rayspeed for prices, they DO the 225 as a classic. its whay 6LDA 28B has. The other one to consider is the mbd racetour kit.

read this months scootering as there is a good test with the kits.

Word of warning . . most 60mm cranks require machining of the crankcase as well . . . mine did.
