Misfire - Coincidence after DC conversion?

Hello all,

I converted my scoot to DC and at first all was well.

However it's now misfiring. When I connected a strobe to check the timing, the light kept cutting out momentarily.

I've replaced the CDI with a genuine Ducati one and removed the Agusto but its still not right. The next bit to replace is the stator plate but that's quite an expense and hassle.

Any other suggestions before I fork out sixty quid or so? Also where is the best place to get one from? Indian wiring is notoriously rubbish and if I can get one already converted to DC it will save me the bother.

Sounds like pickup or lt or both. Change these to bgm instead of getting a new stator. Cheaper and more efficient parts less likely to go wrong.

The DC conversion affects the lighting circuit only and has no effect on the ignition. As mark says try the lt coil and/or pickup, both available from MB, otherwise try corrado, for DC stators or maybe Coaster could help in the near future ;-)

i know byron does stator conversions fo a small fee , be careful buying a dc stator from a certain fishy area dealer as 2 have been reported as not working in the last couple of weeks on the lcgb forum

The BGM coil and pickup are getting on for 45 quid. That seems a lot when a complete DC stator is only £56.

Is it possible to rewire the BGM 120W stator to work with a DC setup? They're £85 but if I'm spending out I might as well get the best.

Yes, no different to the Indian ones, just unsolder the earth from the lighting coil and add the extra yellow 8-)

Early doors yet Mikey, I've only just finished wiring the prototype/experimental one and won't get a chance to try it for a couple of weeks :cry:

Might well do that then. If a BGM coil and pickup is £45, a standard SIL stator altered for DC is £60 and a BGM 120W is £85 then its probably worth it.

On the other hand an SIL pickup and coil is only £20. I might give that a go first.

Waste of money as they will fail, put the bgm parts on you sil stator and itt will be a more powerful stator than a bgm one. The sil lighting coils put out slightly more power than the so called 120 watt bgm stator.

I've found the problem. The insulation on the wiring from the stator had become brittle with age and crumbled away from the green and white wires where they go through the hole in the back of the plate. I guess that it had been hanging on but had finally fallen off after I disturbed the loom when I did the DC conversion.

The bad news is that I've now got to rewire the whole thing. Still at least that's only time rather than money.
