Evening folks.
I'm concerned about an oil leak that i have found on my garage floor!
It's a series 3 125 converted 175 that i've just about finished doing a full resto on. The scoot hasn't been started for around 2 months and all was well then. So it's been stood for a while and oil is dripping from one of the manifold studs.
No leaks from anywhere else, chaincase etc. I can't quite tell if its the engine oil or mixture.
Am i right in thinking that the engine oil would pool around the gearbox end as it has been stood a while, or am i just talking sh@@e. Could it be the result of a dodgy fuel tap that has leaked the mix through to the cylinder.?
The bottom of the air hose had a fair bit of fuel in it.

Any offers please.

Thanks.

is it oil or 2T?
How big is it?
Which manifold stud?- inlet or exhaust?

My monies on 2T mixture dripping from a possible faulty tap, or from the inlet hose area

Not scooter hypochondria is it?

Hi mate.
I should have said, it's coming from the exaust stud, the left one in particular.
The patch of oil was about the size of a dinnerplate but it has been stood for a while.
Now excuse me being thick but what is 2T, i'm assuming you mean the mixutre.
I was unsure of what the leak might be as the engine oil is fresh so still clean, that why i couldn't tell if it's engine oil or mixture.

Thanks.

size of a dinner plate- ouch! I thought it might have been the usual small drip that mosy Lambrettas have- this is obviously something else.

By 2T I do mean mixture from the fuel tank- does it smell like oil or petrol?

What does it feel like- thicker like crankcase oil or "thin" like 2T.

Depending on what it is (oil or 2T) will determine where its from- you say the crankcase is not leaking, then it does sound like a duff fuel tap- take off the plastic pipe between the tap and the carb and see if it drips from the tap- if it does then it means the carb is filling up with fuel (you do switch the tap off when its not running I presume?), and the carb itself is leaking (its own internal float valve is faulty).

If it is in fact pure oil, then the crankcase gasket must be faulty allowing gearbox oil to escape (when you rebuilt the engine how much gearbox oil did you put in?)

Hello mate.
Yes i do turn the tap off, i've tried to get into the habit of doing it 30 seconds before i shut the engine off.
The oil doesn't have a strong smell of petrol, will double check this tomorrow and it is quite thin. The carb is brand new, 22mm jetex and everything is all new and rebuilt, it hasn't been run in yet.
I can't remember how much gearbox oil i put in as it was a while ago but i did it by stickeys book.
So i have taken the carb off and will check again in the morning, fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading.
