Have bought a T5 engine in bits and am rebuilding it. I have taken the gearbox apart to replace the cruciform and the selector rod seems to be the type from the early P ranges as it has a washer at the threaded end. Is this normal for a T5 as never had one before or should it not have any washer. The threaded part on the selector rod is too long without the washer.

The cruciform that was in the gearbox is the flat new style.

Pretty sure they don't have the shim and use the flat cruciform so maybe someone has been messing.Look here http://www.vespaspares.co.uk/spares/epc ... ROUP&uID=0 I would also check it has the right selector box as the last T5 motor I built from bits had 3 to choose from but only one selected correctly.

sounds like you have an early px gearbox fitted. if it works ok, just leave it, but i doubt it will on a revvy engine, they jump gears if worn on a standard px125. the bad news is its a full replacement..gears, xmas tree, layshaft, rod, cruciform, selector box and maybees a seal on the hub, big job. if you can get a EFL px125 box, just put that in. like i said, if its working alreet, just leave it in, you"ll probly just have to replace the cruciform more often.

after reading your post again, you could have anything to be honest! any pictures?

I have checked that it is the newer style gearbox as it has a circlip at the front and at the back, all the gears have the correct amount of teeth as per the gear ratio chart on beedspeeds website for a T5. It looks to me if it is just an older style selector rod. Don't suppose any one has a newer style selector rod lying around and let me know the measurement of the threaded section and the measuremnt of the thicker body bit so I can compare this with mine.
