Ok, all being well I hope to be getting a lambretta soon. But to keep costs down and go a little faster I was thinking of going down the stage four route. So I am just wanting to build up a plan and get an idea.

I was thinking that a JL3 and a 30mm delorto carb would be good for a fast touring setup?

If I end up with a jet200, how would the sx200 gearbox work with this kind if set up?

Also, what piston would people recomend for this kind of set up?

Thanks,

That would depend on who does it for you.
I've ridden a few 'stage 4' 200s with an SX box. All were fine until dropped into top.
If you get someone who knows what they're doing, it should pull without a problem.

Soosh's works well, I hear.

Stage 4 used to be slang for putting a drill down the transfers and making the exhaust port as big as your fist.

I would let the tuner know the set up I have gone for so they can work to that.

Just after any past experience and advice on what would be a good for pulling me and my stuff to a bleak seaside town on the other side of the country....

An asso or mahle thin ring piston in a sil top end works well with 30mm/jl3. Whichever way you go, you could run it as it is to get a feel for it, then discuss what you want with your tuner.

Mate,it should pull an sx box piece of p155. Don't go massive exhaust port but don't skrimp on inlet timing.
With a 28/30 and a jl3 (i used the curly),it should pull well,I even thought about sticking a 16t on as it pulled so well.
As far as piston goes, you won't need a forged piston, very few motors do.Some prefer the 2 ring asap which is good, the guy who did mine insisted on the 3 ring mahle which he modified and run on the 2 top rings. But whoever does it for you,as long as they know what their at,I'm sure they will advice well.

Cheers for that, so it sounds like its a pretty safe set up. I would leave all the complicated stuff like port timings to someone who knows what they are doing :P

There would be no problem using a Spanish barrel? It's just that most people seem to use Indian when going down this route, is this because they are almost a stage 4 already?

Hey,

I have an original Autisa Spanish barrel on my Jet200, it was tuned to Stage 4 first by Taffspeed then by Readspeed. I ran a Asso Werks piston, JL3, 30mil Dell, Jet200 crank and SX200 gearing. It was last dyno'd at 18.5bhp, it'll do a genuine GPS 80mph and it pulls like a train. I have been around the UK and Europe several times on it and it's never let me down. It was in this state of tune for about 6 years. Recently had it retuned by MB and had an MB crank and piston fitted. It is now faster with even more grunt! A decent set up Stage 4 will last! My bike and my mates Soosh are prove of that.
