A genuine Ducati CDI is around £35, a generic copy is around £20. Are the Ducati ones worth the extra or are the pattern ones exactly the same but without the word "Ducati" on them?

Might depend on which ignition system and stator you've got.
Some of the later AFR marked ones seem to be very fussy about the CDI unit and will only work with the AFR marked ones.

Got a Ducati on mine as the main CDI and a generic 1 as back up on the rear out rigger leg.Tested the generic 1 seems to work OK,but like I say its only there in case the ducati packs in.Ron Daley does ducati ones for £29.95 and welsh scooter parts £29.99.Me personally I would and do only use a generic one as a back up.

Recently I was advised to replace my 'fake' cdi with a ducati one before using a dyno. They provide erratic spark and readings and must be more prone to failure. Its only few quid difference, may as well do it. Buy shite, buy twice and all that.

The generics also caused many issues with the Agusto, the Ducati was then the recommended CDI to use.

I've always used genuine Ducati but I wanted a black one for a cutdown and spoke to Readspeed about their CDI which is not Ducati but is round the same price - assume it was Jerome I spoke to who said that they've found their CDI to be less sensitive and that on the dyno changing to their CDI "has cured 99% of ignition problems".
