Have my engine in bits, considering what to do....low low budget ...

Current set up is - barrel 200cc old style s4, std crank, with 2/22 std GP ratios (18x47 - 5.22), original Ducati AF electronic and old style UKS fresco this was a fast and reliable set up

thinking -

rebore existing barrel (£30) to 70mm using Avanti piston (£75) clean up and match

either 58 or 60 crank MECEUR (£120) giving 225 or 230 cc

30mm PHBH hard mount with remote

19 x 46 (GP200 box - 4.8)

Have all the carb and transmission parts

Total - £ (£225)

Think this will work???

Any thoughts on the Avanti piston port piston? Anybody using one? Recommend another decent 70mm?

Not sure if the Avanti piston will suit as is for nicasil lined barrel (does this make a difference , then again maybe not?) Would need to reprofile head to suit (would be doing this anyway?)
Mahle or asso piston is the cheaper route but not much.
As for the rest i would possibly look for a 2nd hand jl3 pipe but that's personal pref.
Carb should be fine but has been known for frothing of fuel in float bowl caused by type of connection , rubber is better, but nothing to lose in trying out.
Gearing i would leave as is (standard) for now till you have run in then if you feel it's revving out to soon then maybe change, all depends on style of riding,weight etc.

I used to use a solid mount carb and had trouble with floth in float bowl but you gotta bend the float arm so you obtain a higher fuel level in the bowl.This will eliminate it totally.

Hmm...It ain't been revamped since 96 and to be fair has been sat for a few years and the piston is sh*gged and it needs a rebore, so thinking of upping it a bit when I have the thing in bits...

Also anyone know if there are oversizes available on the Avanti piston?

Perhaps Ron can confirm but I beleive the Avanti pistons are graded (A, B, C or D) to suit the thickness of the ceramic coating in the smae way that TS1's RB's etc are. If you are having it bored out to 70mm then I'd go for the smallest i.e. A grade which would allow you some honing room for the future. MB racetour pistons are also available for piston port engines and a very good if a little on the pricey stage as they are forged.

Website says it's suitable for all piston ported barrels.
