Got back after a ride today and noticed oily deposits around reed valve, closer inspection revealed a loose cylinder head nut, only it wouldn`t tighten up, the thread in the crankcase where the cylinder stud screws in had stripped, whats the best way to repair the thread, not keen on helicoils, apart from welding and re-tapping any other thread repair methods?

if you helicoil put in the 25mm long ones in they grip a bit better. i am not a big fan myself of them but i have one in my vespa t5 for the cylinder head.

i use repair studs, M9 one end, M8 the other. tap out the stripped thread, and put the stud in, assemble as normal. Beedspeed do a selection of sizes. unless the ally is broken away, ive found this to be the easiest and best method.

The repair stud sounds a good idea, I didn`t think they did them for cylinder studs.

I`ve ordered a couple of repair studs from Beedspeed, funny though 8mm one end and 7/16 Whitworth or something the other end.
