what you need is a long bar ..longer than the head stock ...then weld a engine mount cone to one end (as per stickies book) preffereably the non chamferd type ...first remove the grub screw then inserting the bar up headstock carefully knock the top cup out working your way round so it comes out straght ...repeat for chrome ring

If its in good nick I'd be inclined to heavily mask it up and leave well alone.

Me too. Getting the bloody thing out of my S2 was a nightmare and then getting a remade one back in again was almost as bad.

Yes, Mask up the chrome ring with decent strong tape, toolbox lock, drill out the 2 rivets that hold it in with a nice sharp drill 2 or 3mm, steering lock,in the headset bottom you will see a small screw which actually holds the steering lock in place, unscrew & remove, lever out the 12mm diameter ally cover plate which is near it, if you are careful you can re-use, otherwise replace it, you will see the end of the steering lock in the hole, you can then lever on the end of it with a screwdriver and it should push out, don`t lose the spring & small plunger that does the locking.
Keep on keepin on
