my ts1 for the last few month has be starting up ok few kick with choke on - but when i set off it just dies , or even try to rev it. I have to leave it a good five mins to warm up before i can set off , else it just stalls , -- any ideas , used to be a few kicks with choke on set off with choke on for 400 yards turn off an fine , but no longer will it do this- any ideas,
could it be reeds , - carb looks ok
ts1 starting problem
Agreed. Blocked pilot jet. If not check your fuel supply and make sure enough fuel is running from your fuel tap to carb.
Knackered reeds will give you like flooding symptoms......lots of smoke from exhaust, a fair amount of spitback on carb.
If when you rev it and it coughs and dies, its a sign of fuel starvation or worse, a nasty air leak.
If it will not run without the choke on for a long time or it gets worse when the choke is turned off i would look at fuel starvation or air leak.

If all the simple things like blocked jets are checked and OK, as previously mentioned check for air leaks,I had a similar thing, normally a good starter but then would not start easily, needed choke where it didn`t before, turned out to be base gasket failure, might not be that, but its worth looking underneath for signs of oil residues in that area, just in case.
Keep on keepin on

had something similar on mine albeit not a ts1. Sprayed easy start round the possible are leaks ticking over with choke on soon as I sprayed inlet manifold engine died as easy start over richened it. Sorted manifold no problems since. Mine wouldn't tickover without choke. Good luck with it hope its something simple.
The man who doesn't read has no advantage over the man who can't read
cheers will have a look a Carb over weekend first but it does feel like flooding symptoms......lots of smoke from exhaust, a fair amount of spitback on carb and backfire a bit sometimes , doesnt need much choke
will report back

If you've always had to set off with the choke on then it sounds like your idle jet is to small, or as already said the choke could be compensating for a air leak/loss of fuel.
