hi all, building a suzuki 190 for a mate of mine, tuned sr barrel, mitaka piston ,think the crank has a rd rod,at tdc the piston is bang on flush with the top of barrel,at bdc,the piston sits 2 to 2.5mm above the bottom of exhaust port, which seems a bit high to me,the barrel was tuned by a reputable tuning shop,is this correct,or does the barrel want packing at the base and the top of cylinder machining,or would this make the port timings a bit wild, other options run as is,or lower bottom of exhaust port to suit piston, any thoughts ?,cheers all.

Is it just the Exhaust port that sits below the piston crown at BDC or are the Transfers the same ??

Sounds very interesting. Please keep us posted on progress on this barrel. I think is a great kit. I have the exact set up on our race bike. The rod is just something else, done by none the less than Harry Barlow...

Not sure its anything to do with the skirt Sean unless I've misunderstood?

Having the base of the exhaust port below top of piston at BDC by a few mils is no probs, it may be due to SR ports being a bit irregular from factory.

its the initial question thats confusing me here................particularly his last sentence.............
"or should i lower ex port to suit.....?"suggesting that both ex and trans openings are above BDC
what we need to know for deffinate here is, at BDC ,is the piston above or below EX port bottom..................?
maybe its just me thats confused..............?

Lol see what you mean now!! Yeh not sure the last bit is right.....now I'm confuzzzzzed

I read it as the piston top at BDC is 2mm above base of Ex port........which is fine but what about those trans, do they sit level at BDC?????

I think we need a bit more info
ie port heights etc

Bit of an odd ball, like has it been top tailed ie 2mm / 5mm
is it a suzi TS type piston shorter comp hieght.

Normally with 115/6 rod needs packer plate, but may be depends on crankcase used.

Get as much info as you can m8 and Im sure we can sort

As ADAM said as well SR ports can be a bit irregular from factory

Smiffy
If its made of Metal Fettle it !!

hi all, sorry for any confusion, the piston at bdc is approx 2mm higher than the bottom of the exhaust port, and at bdc is level with the transfer ports, the length of piston skirt, exhaust and inlet, i measure at approx 69.5mm,cheers all.
