Just picked an an electric start PX flywheel as they are marginally lighter than the earlier non-electric start ones. What's the best way to remove the electric start gear ring/cog without damaging the soft flywheel alloy?
Thanks!

Just tap it off with a hammer and large flat blade screwdriver, working you way around it don't try and lever it off against the flywheel as you will damage the flywheel.

or cut straight through it with a hack saw and it will fall off

just cut thru it with a hacksaw, and ping it off. easypeasy. mind, some early p-range casings wont let a disc flywheel sit fully "home" on the crank, they have a web of ally at the front of the casing , that the flywheel doesnt clear. either machine the flywheel (beedspeed does this for a tenner or so) or grind the casing. i"d machine the flywheel myself. contrary to popular belief, not all P-range engine bits are interchangeable. some need fettling.

goldeneye is correct - i`ve just put a electric start flywheel on my early (pre autolube) and had to machine a a lip in to fit the casing - took me 20minutes on a lathe (longer to set it up than do it) - you will see what is needed when you compare it to a
good thing was the electric start flywheel with the ring off was lighter than my original which had been lightened
i just knocked the ring off as hungdog said

Thanks for the heads up!
The cases are early Rally 200 and a lip has already been machine in the casing. Would have kept it FEMSA but a local 'mechanic' butchered the stator beyond repair so 12v PX Ducati conversion was done--now just want to lighten the flywheel from the standard early P-series.
