fork rebuild

Had a nightmare rebuilding my tv forks,now im trying to dismantle them to change springs ,the u shaped piece on the compressor keeps slipping off the fork spring rod has anyone else had this prob? any ideas, the tool is from scooter restorations and rods from cambridge lambretta thanks

i can't even imagine how that would happen. you have the bolt or something similar in size thru the bolt holes holding the tool to the forks? otherwise there must be something wrong with your rods. post pics?

the tool is held onto the forks ok but the part that fits around the ball on the rod slips off when the tool is pulled down

You'll probably find that the tool is Indian.

I had the same problem a while back and it transpired that the "U" shaped bit wasn't long enough and kept slipping off.

My dealer changed it for a better one

The fork spring compressor tool I bought from Scooter Restorations works fine. I just wish I could remember who I lent it to. :roll:

maybe see if you or someone you know can weld, have them just add some weld to the tool you have to make it work. that should be quite a cheap job.
good luck, i'd lend you my tool but the postage and time it would take to get it to you from canada wouldn't really make it worth it.
