Is it possible for the home mechanic to remove the suspension link from the fork (for coating/chroming etc)? I mean the part with the plastic cover. Thanks

Ive just had a set of new forks, links etc done by Quality Chrome,
Some one said they could do it with brute force and a hammer !! which worried me somewhat
I then got told take to them to a vespa dealer who have the right clamps and specialist equipment that is needed to do the job. etc
i went to MSC Nottingham With new bearings and bits and bobs plus VAT cost £133.00
Done a good job though

I have done the link before with a genuine tool and it was awkward ,really needed a hand.It is far easier to have the link pin pressed out at a local engineering shop, then refitted once the chroming has been done.

I agree with Wack 63... I've pressed them out before, replaced the shaft and bearings and link... quite straight forward to be fair..!! I wish I could charge £133 for the job, including bits though..!!

I changed one on a mates P2 Disc. I used a big vice and a piece of studding along with a section of bsp steel pipe. It was a bit awkward, and needed two of us in the end. Only the cost of the link pin/bearing kit and one sunday afternoon. It can be done at home, a hammer is most certainly not the tool for the job though..

MSC charged me 1 1/2 hours labour to do the job .
Attach links all the bearings drive etc etc
But they they have done a spot on job when i wanted it doing with no marks at all to the chrome . I guess this is why i use dealers and specialist scooter tuners as you get what it says on the tin .
Dealer prices £65 ish plus vat!!
