Pitted crank

Hi there

In the middle of stripping my T5 engine for a rebuild.

Have taken the crank out and found some pitting on it. I am wondering if this will affect it or if it is okay to use. :?:

Pitting on the second pic is where my thumb is.
There isn't any pitting around where the bearings and seals go.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers Bruce

a rubbing crank would have score marks in it im my experience.

if i seen that in my engine i would only put that in the bin! just hope your sealing pad is ok (inlet on case) if so, throw it, get another and thank you lucky stars! i would also suggest that aint a genuine crank, of its been stood for ages!

looks like its been very rusty, and been cleaned up to put in the motor, if thats the case , the big end bearing will be pitted, and therefore knackered. you could get it re-built with a new rod and bearing, but for the price of a new crank, i"d get a new crank. sometimes things arent worth keeping. chuck it and buy new, it"ll always be at the back of your mind that the heart of your engine is shite.
