P200 Starting Problem

I'm at the end of my tether with my Vespa. If I leave it for a day or so I can't get it started. I've got to push the choke back in, hold the throttle open and kick it about 20 times before it will start. Once it starts it runs great. I've cleaned the carb out and it's still the same. I've also replaced the HT cap to an NGK one ( it had the orginal one on). It's from 1979 and is in great standard condition with only 10,500 miles on the clock. I think it could be piston rings but those engines run forever when standard as we know so well. So any ideas????
