I know these Indian Ali kits are viewed in a dubious light by many due to the poor finish and ports, etc. However, as with the old SR 190's a few people have cleaned these up and got a decent kit out of it.

I need a barrel to get a Suzuki 230 kit togethor...I already have the piston and a 60mm crank with correct rod, I'll need to get a cylinder head as well.

On Ebay I can get the full 225 Indian Ali kit for about £120 from somewhere in Leeds. I drive through Leeds at least once a week so hopefully can collect. Or I can buy just the Rapido 225 cylinder from AF for around £140.00 plus postage.

The Rapido is advertised as Race, although, I want more of a tourer, but am I right in thinking the Rapido is a better starting point for this kit than the Indian barrel. It's gonna be lot tidier!

With the Indian kit I'll get the head in with the deal...they wont be SIL will they?

I think I'll need a packer with this rod and crank too from what I've picked up reading Tav's "credit crunch engine" thread.

Is there a 225 Classic Rapido, they don't have it advertised on their site?

Apologies if the above comes across as a bit muddled...I'm trying to weigh up the options.

By the way for sale: Iron Kawa 240, H2 piston, original bore (needs rings), profiled head - PM offers if interested.

Cheers

Beedspeed do them https://beedspeed.com/product_info.php/ ... ts_id/6422

Actually, I was goiing to put up a similar post, I know the rapido is made differently to the SR type kits. The Rapido is a fairly hefty cast iron barell (some say the iron is very soft) which has the manifold studs cast into it, the ally fins are then cast around the inner cylinder. The cheaper option is an ally casting which has a thin steel liner pressed in afterwards and the studs are threaded into ally.

I don't see the studs threading into ally as a problem, my 186 muggy and T5 cylinders have given no problem in that department. Also I'm thinking that the thinner the steel liner the better for heat transfer/disipation?

I just won an ebay auction for a siezed ally 225 kit, it was too cheap to not risk a punt on :? It was advertised as being as rough as hell in the port area and the cylinder head acually has '175' cast into it which suggests that its a copy casting. I'll report more when it arrives.

my brother bought just the rapido 225 classic barrel from af then had mb match a racetour piston to it, match the exhaust and inlet and finish it to a nice standard.

its a nice bike. 16 bhp with a very flat dyno curve with a 24mm mikuni and anciloti

i would buy the rapido if i were you as its 99 % what you want already and the bits that come in the ebay kit are likely to go in the bin anyway

The price of that kit is stupid not worth it now

Ive done loads of 2nd hand rapido kits but only when you can pick the old
Barrels from £20-£40 ish but £94 someone is either desperate or very stupid :?

I tend to go for the classic so can do own porting

The Ali kits do need work on them but can be done and get a nice engine out of them I done a few.
Got to admit Iv managed just to get the Barrels

Things to watch out

Piston not to good, rings are s**t so change.

Heads watch the CR on the heads as the combustion chamber on alot ive seen are quite
small giving larger CR. Not reccomended for 95 Ron petrol etc.Needs playing with.

All ports need a good tidy up, porting and Chamfering

Other then this there not to bad

Mind you a bulk batch of barrels at 25-30 quid each cant be bad :D

Hi Stu, my recomendation is GO INDIAN, then give it to a tuner to mess about. The cost ends up to be almost the same as if you buy a whole kit, but you have a personalized kit, not something everybody has. There are barrels alone sold sometimes. Also this permits you to not having to pay the whole amount of cash at once (for me it is quite something since I am always skint), you can get the barrel, then have the tuning whenever you like and have enough cash to do it.

With so many bad publicity on Rapidos, I take its the most honest approach.
