Excuse my stupidity here and apologies if this has been brought up before, but...

Came across one of these while I was looking up something else (no, not cock rings). I gather these were used on motorbikes to secure the pipe to the barrel, but what about the finned ones, could or would something like this help with getting rid of heat or just a waste of time?

Most big air cooled bike engines had these in the 60s and 70s bilko and yes I guess it must have made a difference only phased out by water cooled engines, I think the idea was to grab cooler air to the hottest place of the barrel (exhaust outlet)

To work on a lammy barrel it would have to be reworked or some clever could make an adapter from a stub with threads to take the finned collar and lets face it any extra cooling is no bad thing..

weld it and try rob it cant hinder only help

I wouldn't mind giving it a go on my old JL pipe when I get the LI back on the road. It's finding one that would fit or getting something made up. That's where my fabrication skills disappear.

best bet would be weld on some finns direct to pipe near the head or find one that clamps to the pipe ,the one in your pic is a screw on type

Angry Bloke and i have discussed this as one of those useful things to do.
it's making it worthwhile without getting in the way of the stud nuts, which can be a pain to get to as it is.
Ideally, one like above could be used to screw onto a stub on the barrel and do away with the stud fixing entirely...
so just like Lambretta did in the 50s on the model Cs & Ds...

Maybe, 2 halves that bolt together and can be taken on and off in situ?

i remember it being discussed aren't they made by our indian friends - for enfield bikes?

What diameter are they?
